Connectivity & Management
Featuring eight auto-sensing 10/100 LAN ports, one Gigabit LAN port, two 10/100 WAN ports and a console port for command line interface (CLI) capabilities, the FVX538 ProSafe Firewall lets multiple computers in your office share two Internet connections. The Dual WAN ports let you connect a second Internet line as a backup to insure that you're never disconnected. Or, use both Internet ports at the same time, and let the router balance your office's requirements between them for maximum bandwidth efficiency. One LAN port can be dedicated as a hardware DMZ port for safely providing services to the Internet without reducing security to your LAN.

The FVX538 can also serve as a DHCP server and supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). Use this Firewall Router with any SNMP-based management software including NETGEAR’s NMS100 ProSafe™ Network Management Software.


Private, Secure Business Communication
The FVX538 Firewall provides comprehensive network security with Denial of Service (DoS) protection and Intrusion Detection using Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI). The FVX538 will protect your business against DoS attacks such as Ping of Death, SYN Flood, Land Attacks, IP Spoofing, tear drop, and many more. Keyword content filtering allows you to control Web access and block unacceptable sites. Logging, reporting, and real-time notification alert you to problems or attacks.

The FVX538 Firewall ensures communication between the head office, branch locations and/or remove workers remain private with up to 200 simultaneous Virtual Private Network (VPN) security associations (private connections). All data traffic between locations is encrypted using DES, 3DES, or 256-bit AES. The FVX538 also supports IPSec, PPTP, L2TP and VPN pass-through functionality for use as part of a client-based remote connection to a larger enterprise VPN. Centralised management of a distributed workforce is possible with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) enabling secure remote management capabilities.


Easy to Set-up & Interoperable
NETGEAR’s Smart Wizard™ connects to your ISP quickly and the easy-to-use Web-based configuration screen and Install Assistant reduce set-up time. The VPN Wizard capability makes setting up secure, remote connections easy. The FVX538 VPN Firewall Router is VPNC compliant and compatible with all major VPNC certified devices and standards-based IPSec Client software, including NETGEAR’s ProSafe VPN Client Software. Support for DHCP (client and server) as well as PPPoE allows for easy, widespread deployment. Compatible with Windows®, Macintosh®, UNIX®, and Linux®, or any other TCP/IP based platforms.
